Meet the Interns: Ashley

A new intern has joined the community engagement team here at LeaderShape and we are ready for you to meet her…

Hello! My name is Ashley Muckway I just graduated with my degree in Marketing along with a Communication Design Minor from Fort Lewis College. Throughout my college career I was fortunate to play lacrosse, be involved in the Marketing Club and be a part of Student Union Productions. Along with my school activities I had the amazing opportunity to live in Durango, CO and explore what the area has to offer. From hiking, to floating the river, to snowboarding and ice climbing. Living in a completely new environment then where I grew up in Minnesota I was able to grow and learn in a completely new environment.

How did you get connected to LeaderShape?
At Fort Lewis College, I worked for the student orientation team my sophomore year as a student group leader. The next year I was able to work on the Senior Leadership team, where the four of us on the team were asked if we would like to attend the national session of LeaderShape’s Institute program. We all said yes and were able to attend the experience of a lifetime.

What is something from your involvement from LeaderShape that you continue to apply or work towards in your life?
During the session about our vision, I was able to put into understandable thoughts of what I wanted to do. Before the Institute I was less than a year away from graduation, with no idea where I wanted to go and what I wanted to do. Once I was back in school I was so wrapped up in what I was doing that I didn’t think about what I really wanted in the future, leaving me unsure of what I wanted to do next. During winter break I was asked about what LeaderShape was and why I enjoyed it so much. This got me thinking about why LeaderShape actually helped me, this is when I realized I hadn’t been following what I learned about myself. Once I started to think about my vision and what that meant to me, I was able to decide that taking the year and living in Durango do what I wanted to do, was the best choice. Because of that choice I now work for LeaderShape, and have a full-time job in my field at Fort Lewis College. Now I think about every choice I make and how that will lead me to my vision.

If you could speak to everyone in the world at the same time, what would you say?
I would tell everyone not to get lost in what they are doing. Always look for something that will make you happy and do that.

Could you share a quote that you find particularly motivating or inspiring?
“If it doesn’t challenge you, it won’t change you.” – Fred Devito

We know you have a pretty full schedule. If you were given a completely free day, with no obligations, what would you do?
Cook. I would love to just spend the day making crazy recipes that take way to long for a normal day to make.
