October: Reflecting in the Moment

Here at LeaderShape, we rely on the power of our community to make what we do possible. We believe that anything is possible with a compelling vision, integrity, a supportive community and the commitment to stay in action. We spent September looking toward the future, and we hope you did too (head over to our Instagram account and check out the “September” story).

Our vision is a just, caring, and thriving world where everyone leads with integrity and lives in possibility. Where we work in community with one another. Where everyone recognizes their own gifts and finds ways to use them for the greater good. Our intention is to create spaces for others to be included and contribute in this world and then by doing so, lead others to do the same – “to lead, live”.

This month we want to invite everyone, including our staff and organization, to reflect in the moment. Being mindful and present with yourself, and groups you identify with, is beneficial to our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well being.

Below is a peak at some of what we’ll be sharing on our social media platforms this month. We’re eager to reflect with the LeaderShape community this month!

National Book Month

Books expose us to new ideas, connect us to the lived experience of others, and can even bring about self-discovery. October is National Book Month and to celebrate, the LeaderShape staff is sharing what they have been reading.

Day 7

Leaders inevitably find themselves stuck in the mess; living and leading with integrity is no simple task, but it is possible. Because of this, we will focus our #Day7 in October around why mindfulness matters. Student leaders, especially, can become overwhelmed with everything that college life involves – attending class, preparing for papers and tests, attending club meetings and putting on campus events, not to mention maintaining relationships with friends, families, and partners. This alone can turn a normal nine to five day into a non-stop day with few breaks and little time for meals and sleep.

We believe that all of us, no matter our workload or commitments, is capable of practicing mindfulness. On Sunday, October 7th, follow the hashtag #MindfulnessMatters on Instagram and Twitter as we reflect on ways to practice mindfulness by yourself, with a group, and reasons why it’s beneficial for leaders.

LeaderShapers in Action

Over the past few weeks, we have heard from LeaderShapers across the nation who  are staying in action. And soon we’ll be sharing even more advice and stories from the participants and facilitators from our programs!

We would like to share your story as well! If, as a result of a LeaderShape program, you have experienced a personal change in thought or behavior or have put what you’ve learned into action. We can’t wait to hear from you!

It Only Takes Three Steps to Start Something Extraordinary

Three Steps to Start Something Extraordinary

Continued from a Q&A session with Community Engagement Team, KBH, Krista, and Colby share how they found ways to keep focused on the important (i.e. starting a habit).

KBH: I would say it is particularly helpful to make sure that what we say is a priority is truly important to us. That it is something important enough that we are willing – even excited – to put the work necessary into creating a meaningful habit. Perhaps, then, the distractions of life won’t be nearly as appealing as the path to accomplishing our new habit.

Krista: Recognize that life doesn’t always go as planned, but use your struggles as a means to achieve more. Make sure that you feel joy when you think about your life, and if you don’t, then find what makes you joyful and make that a priority.

Colby: Ask yourself, “What if I did a today, which could lead to b that then lead to c, d, and e. Or that uncovered the possibility of 2 and 3?” What I’m trying to convey is that you never know where your journey will take you, but think of where your journey can take you. It only takes one step and there is no need to rush into it, go at your own pace.

Are you inspired to pick a habit and weave it into your routine? (Hey, us too!) Follow these three steps to kick start a life of integrity with a new habit!

Catalyst is designed as a one-day learning experience where participants develop their own authentic path, connect to groups and causes they care about, and commit to a plan to be a person who sparks possibility. Part of that plan is designed so participants  understand how the habits they create can help them author their future leadership story, and below are some steps to begin your own leadership story.

It’s time to dream a little, look at some ideas, consider your needs and decide what starting something extraordinary means to you.  The image below is made to give you an overview of some of the possibilities but there is so much more. Or if you would like some advice, read over this blog on “Our Valuable Time”

Craft Your Habit

Craft Your Habit

Crafting your habit is when your dreams and ideas take shape. Use sticky notes, colored pens, or other fun office supplies to start planning how you will act on your habit. You can find more ideas and inspiration on our Pinterest page.

Believe in yourself

Believe in Yourself
When you’re satisfied with crafting your habit, it’s time to start something extraordinary. It can be daunting at first, but trust (and believe) in yourself. When you find yourself struggling, revisit the reason(s) why you started. The possibility of living a life of integrity is right at your fingertips!

What habit will you commit to trying for 30 days?

In August, we had our 70,000th participant complete The Institute. Think of all of the amazing visions that are bringing endless possibilities to this world.

We partnered with 17 organizations to spend the day with their staff developing their skills in the area of resilience.

We partnered with 50 organizations to help participants create change in their communities by starting something extraordinary.
