November: Getting Behind the Movement (Part II)

This month we invite everyone to get behind the movement with us. Our foundation is built on community and the impact that it will have on the future. The best way to enhance YOUR own personal movement is to get behind the movement of others. See the ripple effect in action this month as we ALL strive to become part of the movement.

The first step to getting involved is to support those who are doing great things.

Below is a peak at some of what we’ll be sharing on our social media platforms this month. We’re eager to reflect with the LeaderShape community this month!

#LeaderShapeWeb

Another installment in our LeaderShape Webinar Series returns with Saying Yes Less: Why It Matters and How to Do It with Jeffrey Cufaude on Wednesday, November 14th at 12:05 p.m. CST. Save your seat for the webinar by clicking here!

November 2018 Webinar Promotion FB (1)This webinar explores saying yes less, why it matters and the beliefs and behaviors required to do it. While the principles discussed in the webinar are relevant for individuals and organizations, our time together will focus almost exclusively on their individual application. Specifically, we will explore the following questions:

  • What beliefs influence your philosophy of yes?
  • To what offers or opportunities would you definitely say no? Why?
  • With what people or in what situations do you most often feel obliged to say yes?
  • What are potential pitfalls of embracing the improv philosophy of yes and?
  • What are helpful ways of saying no that lessen any potential negative consequences?

To Lead, Give

#GivingTuesday is a special call to action, creating a national day of giving around the annual shopping and spending season to inspire giving every day. As a not-for-profit organization, we depend on financial contributions and your generosity moves us closer to our mission and vision. Help us kick off the giving season on this year’s Giving Tuesday, November 28, by donating to LeaderShape. We’ll be sharing more details on all of our social media platforms later this month.

LeaderShapers in Action

LeaderShapers In ActionOver the past few weeks, we have heard from LeaderShapers across the nation who  are staying in action. Allison S. (Institute, National Session) says “[leadership] does not have one blanket definition of ‘being involved’, but it instead encompasses the actions that we chose to make every single day”. Chad E. (Institute, University of Lincoln-Nebraska), took action in being one step closer to bringing his vision to reality by publishing his own book. Ari A. (Institute, Temple University) remembers how, “we defined our personal values and learned about leading with integrity by staying true to our values at both our valleys and our peaks.” April H. (Institute, Centennial College) shares this advice with future LeaderShapers of any program: “give it as much as you got, allow yourself to be uncomfortable, because it is only then that we truly learn and grow.”

We would like to share your story as well! If, as a result of a LeaderShape program, you have experienced a personal change in thought or behavior or have put what you’ve learned into action. We can’t wait to hear from you!

November: Getting Behind the Movement (Part I)

Here at LeaderShape, we rely on the power of our community to make what we do possible. We believe that anything is possible with a compelling vision, integrity, a supportive community and the commitment to stay in action. We spent October reflecting in the moment, and we hope you did too (check out the Mindfulness Matters activities to try and five key takeaways from the month).

Our vision is a just, caring, and thriving world where everyone leads with integrity and lives in possibility. Where we work in community with one another. Where everyone recognizes their own gifts and finds ways to use them for the greater good. Our intention is to create spaces for others to be included and contribute in this world and then by doing so, lead others to do the same – to lead, live.

#ToLeadRead Book Club

#ToLeadReadDuring National Book Month (October), we wanted to take a shot at a book club of sorts, taking #toleadread to another level. We shared four titles and through a heated bracket of tough competition, the final selection that was voted on is The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. You can find the book at your local library or purchase it here on Amazon. Don’t forget to use Amazonsmile and donate to your favorite not-for-profit (*cough cough* LeaderShape *cough cough*).

We’ll have about a month to read the book, and some of us on staff will be sharing our progress as we go. And by “we”, we mean you and us together! You can do the same using #toleadread. Join along on Wednesday, November 28 at 1:00pm CST to explore the book with other LeaderShapers as some of the LeaderShape staff will be there to lead us through questions and discussion points.

Day 7

Join us for #Day7 to connect with those who are Getting Behind the Movement and using their abilities to make the world a better place. On Wednesday, November 7th, we will be taking a moment to offer our thanks to those who are doing great work! Some of those folks are people who have been a part of our Catalyst, the Institute, and Resilience programs, while some are outside of our community but doing work that aligns with our values and vision.

We hope you’ll join us in this expression of gratitude by showing support to people and groups who are connected to YOUR own personal movement. support to such groups is the first step in the direction of YOUR own personal movement.  So spread the word, get connected, and say thanks to all of those helping to make a difference this month for Day 7. Because in order to build an even more impactful community, we need to continue grow and spread the word about our mission.

LeaderShape is built on the foundation of community and that wouldn’t be possible without such amazing supporters. Thank you for all that you do, and we hope to hear from you on 11.07.18.

7 Days of Gratitude

7

Check in with us for 7 days of sharing your gratitude with those around you. We will be focusing on 7 different ways to say show people what they mean to you –  because a little gesture can go a long way! Don’t miss out on activities such as preparing a meal for you family or friends or writing a gratitude list.

This is one part of a two part blog because we have a cornucopia of events happening in November! Come back tomorrow for updates on an upcoming webinar, Giving Tuesday, and more LeaderShapers in action

October: Reflecting in the Moment

Here at LeaderShape, we rely on the power of our community to make what we do possible. We believe that anything is possible with a compelling vision, integrity, a supportive community and the commitment to stay in action. We spent September looking toward the future, and we hope you did too (head over to our Instagram account and check out the “September” story).

Our vision is a just, caring, and thriving world where everyone leads with integrity and lives in possibility. Where we work in community with one another. Where everyone recognizes their own gifts and finds ways to use them for the greater good. Our intention is to create spaces for others to be included and contribute in this world and then by doing so, lead others to do the same – “to lead, live”.

This month we want to invite everyone, including our staff and organization, to reflect in the moment. Being mindful and present with yourself, and groups you identify with, is beneficial to our physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well being.

Below is a peak at some of what we’ll be sharing on our social media platforms this month. We’re eager to reflect with the LeaderShape community this month!

National Book Month

Books expose us to new ideas, connect us to the lived experience of others, and can even bring about self-discovery. October is National Book Month and to celebrate, the LeaderShape staff is sharing what they have been reading.

Day 7

Leaders inevitably find themselves stuck in the mess; living and leading with integrity is no simple task, but it is possible. Because of this, we will focus our #Day7 in October around why mindfulness matters. Student leaders, especially, can become overwhelmed with everything that college life involves – attending class, preparing for papers and tests, attending club meetings and putting on campus events, not to mention maintaining relationships with friends, families, and partners. This alone can turn a normal nine to five day into a non-stop day with few breaks and little time for meals and sleep.

We believe that all of us, no matter our workload or commitments, is capable of practicing mindfulness. On Sunday, October 7th, follow the hashtag #MindfulnessMatters on Instagram and Twitter as we reflect on ways to practice mindfulness by yourself, with a group, and reasons why it’s beneficial for leaders.
